[競(jìng)賽動(dòng)態(tài)] From http://www.infolink.com.au Australian grand plan for Shenyang Australian architecture and design firm Woodhead International has secured top place in a design competition for Shenyang, one of the fastest growing cities in northern China. The Woodhead International team was the only Australian design firm invited to submit designs and the company is now set to expand its reputation in the booming Chinese design and development market. Headed by Principal in charge of China, David Gilbert, it is a project covering an area of 7 square kilometres. The challenge was to create the 500,000m2 masterplan for the city facing the demands of an extreme climatic environment that moves from hot dry summers to cold winters. The design was based on a combination of three concept areas: recognition and abstract use of ancient Chinese urban design principles, use of world class urban design principles focussing on human scale, and ESD solutions with a focus on water retention and reuse. According to urban designer David Holm there was great synergy of all three elements that made the project successful. "Occasionally as a designer you come across a design project where everything just fits together. The masterplanning of Shenyang was one such opportunity," said Mr Holm. "The combination of the old and the new design principles assembled in an ordered nature where balance is a key outcome. The design is balanced with gateways and green belts that enhance the existing riverside surroundings. We have used low levels buildings where possible incorporating the best human climactic conditions to aid sunlight, penetration ventilation and natural light filtering throughout the buildings." Shenyang is situated on the edge of the Gobi Desert and to address the airborne dust issues, planning included the damming of the Hun River at the centre of town. The reticulated water from the dam would be used to create green belts with substantial landscaping. The ESD focus on water was one of the key ingredients to the entire project. Woodhead International Principal in charge of China, David Gilbert, says this is a huge coup for the architectural firm and "demonstrates that Australian designers can successfully compete on a world stage bringing best practice design solutions in architecture, urban design and interior design to clients internationally as well as in Australia." 16 November 2001
